About The Artist
Shakito Samuel was born in St. Johns, Antigua and then lived in the serene tropics of St. Croix, U.S. Virgin Islands. Shakito began his artistic talent over 20 years ago. In 1981, he moved to Boston, Massachusetts where he continued his artistic endeavors and expanded his talents to include welding. He now resides in Jacksonville, FL.
Shakito is a talented and versatile artist who draws inspiration from music and nature. While living in the Caribbean, Shakito became a musician. He played the steel drum and other instruments. The relationship between music and art is one which comes natural to him.
Shakito's paintings are a balance of handed down skill enhanced with his own flair of creativity. His creations entail various paint media including canvas and mural work, for which he utilizes with acrylics, oils and pastels.
The majority of his paintings are of the life of the Caribbean capturing its culture by using the vibrant colors of the small villages, the peaceful coastlines and the relaxed way of life.
Shakito has received U.S. and international notoriety having sold pieces in some of the most art appreciative corners of the world including New York, California, France, Germany, Japan, Italy, England, South Africa and Argentina. His work has been featured in publications such as the World Literature Textbooks. His work has also been depicted on products such as calendars, CDs, postcards and novels.
